Overview
A self-employed mortgage adviser provides expert guidance to clients seeking mortgage and protection solutions, operating independently or as part of a network. This role involves advising on a range of mortgage products, assessing client needs, and ensuring all recommendations comply with current regulations. The adviser is responsible for building and maintaining their own client base while delivering a high standard of professional service.
Key Responsibilities
Conduct detailed fact-finds to understand clients’ financial circumstances, needs, and objectivesProvide tailored mortgage and protection advice across a comprehensive panel of lenders and providersResearch and recommend suitable mortgage products, including residential, buy-to-let, and remortgage optionsGuide clients through the full application process from initial enquiry to completionEnsure all advice is compliant with regulatory standards and internal proceduresMaintain accurate and up-to-date client records and documentationBuild and nurture relationships with clients, introducers, estate agents, and other professional contactsProactively generate new business through networking, referrals, and marketing activitiesKeep up to date with market trends, lender criteria, and regulatory changes
Skills and Experience
Fully CeMAP qualified (or equivalent recognised mortgage qualification)Proven experience in mortgage advising, ideally in a whole-of-market environmentStrong understanding of mortgage products, lending criteria, and financial regulationsExcellent communication and interpersonal skillsAbility to build trust and maintain long-term client relationshipsStrong organisational and time-management abilitiesSelf-motivated with a proactive approach to business development
